Continuity Camera may be macOS Mojave's coolest and most useful new feature. It lets you use your iOS device as a camera or scanner for your Mac.
Before you try it, here are the rules:
How to Scan Your Old Photos. We show you how to digitize your photos so that you can more easily find them, share them, and prevent them from being lost in the event of a disaster.
- Both devices (Mac and iDevice) must be logged into the same Apple ID.
- Both devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Both devices must have Bluetooth enabled.
If you meet those criteria, you can use your iDevice as a camera or scanner and have the resulting photo or scan inserted in your document or saved to the Finder (almost) instantly.
A scanner is an external hardware device that you use to import (copy) images to your Mac and 'read' text from a page into a Pages or Word file. With a scanner connected to your Mac, you can use the combination of your scanner and printer as a copy machine (with software provided by the manufacturer). To use iPhoto with your flatbed or film scanner, simply scan your negative, slide, or print with the scanner and save the resulting files to a folder on your Mac. You can import the images directly into iPhoto with the Import command. You can also drag the folder of images directly onto the iPhoto interface and add photos that way. If you scan an image that has lots of white space, the scanner may import it as more than one scanned image. Choose Apple menu System Preferences, then click Printers & Scanners. Select your scanner in the list at the left, then click Open Scanner on the right. The GIMP image editing application for Windows allows you to scan images directly into the app from any TWAIN-compliant scanner. If you try to scan an image but your scanner doesn't show up in GIMP, there's a problem with your scanner.
To make the magic happen, just right- or Control-click anywhere an image or scan can be used (Notes, Stickies, TextEdit or Pages documents, and the Finder, to name a few).
Not every app or document supports Continuity Camera, but if it's available when you right- or Control-click, you'll see an item called Import from iPhone or iPad in your shortcut menu, as shown.
Choose the device you want to use if you have more than one nearby. Now choose Take Photo or Scan Documents.

Tap Retake if you're dissatisfied with the image and want to try again. When you get a shot you're happy with, tap Use Photo and the shot appears in the document at the insertion point or on the desktop almost immediately.
Choosing Scan Documents is similar to taking a photo, with some minor differences. You'll still see an overlay or a dialog on your Mac, but this time it says Scan a Document rather than Take a Photo.
